People often ask me where I find inspiration for different cars, and the answer is ‘literally everywhere’. The colour palette for this particular car was inspired by the TV show Peaky Blinders, in particular the show’s protagonist, business man/gangster Thomas Shelby. Tommy loved a good car, and I think his namesake in this ‘67 would make him smile.
Tommy is a 1967 left hand drive, manual transmission, body and chassis numbers matching car. The vehicle will undergo a full, body-off, bare metal, rotisserie rebuild. Tommy will be media blasted, and all necessary metalwork will be carried out to return the body to its original condition.
The car will undergo several weeks of bodywork to ensure that every panel is as straight (or curved) as it is meant to be. We are meticulous with our bodywork standards, and aim to achieve no more than 2mm body filler in any area of the car.
Starting on the outside with a dark and broody steel blue-grey, with the slightest hint of micro-flake giving a slightly metallic appearance, this car will be built as a driver, but will likely fair well at most Volkswagen shows. Our aim for this car is to build a stylish, refined car with a slightly modern twist, that the owner won’t be afraid to drive. The paint I’ve chosen is a Jaguar colour - Arctic Blue Metallic.
All fibreglass fenders - two inch wider in the front, three inch wider in the rear, plus fibreglass ‘W’ style decklid. Powder coated alloy wheels (similar to pictured), 15 x 10 in the rear and 15 x 8 in the front
In keeping with the Cal-look style, the car will be de-chromed with a combination of textured and gloss charcoal coloured powder coat, for the trim, bumpers, door handles and latches.
Powder coat will continue throughout the chassis, with colour matched pans and powder coated accents. The car will receive a suspension upgrade, including four wheels disc brakes. The car will be lowered slightly, 4” narrowed front beam, drop spindles and lowered just one notch in the rear, creating a comfortable and safe drive height.
The car will receive a brand new, zero mile, 1776cc engine with dual carbs. Engine tins will be powder coated to match. Also included is a brand new ‘Freeway Flyer’ transmission, brand new gauges, steering wheel, wiring harness, and Retrosound stereo with hidden speakers. Headlights and tail lights will be upgraded to LED.
Your brand new interior, will of course be the finest automotive leather, in dark blue with charcoal accents. Carpet will be charcoal coloured 100% wool square weave, bound in charcoal leather. Our headliner fabric is yet to be selected but will be a greyish-blue herringbone tweed fabric, reminiscent of Tommy Shelby’s trademark peaky cap.
Extra upgrades include swan neck mirrors, added pop out rear quarter windows with extenders, custom powder coated hood hinges. Vintage Speed shifter, custom pedals, and custom dash knobs.
Deposit required to guarantee ownership at the end of build is $10,000. The deposit is not refundable if you change your mind.
Your deposit locks in the sale price of $55,000. If there are any unforeseen expenses incurred by us during completion, these will not increase the price.
If no deposit is taken during the build process, the final price may be increased.
YOU AGREE TO LET US COMPLETE THE BUILD, PER OUR ORIGINAL BUILD PLAN. YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY INPUT ON THE DESIGN OF THE CAR.
The expected completion date for this build is November 2026. The vehicle will remain in our care for a period of approximately six months for the purpose of marketing, showing the car, and to iron out any issues that might arise with the car, before handing it off to the owner. Pick up/delivery will be available in May the following year.
Final payment is required 14 days before handoff. Failure to make final payment will forfeit the deposit and render the sale invalid. Payments can be made throughout the build, if the buyer prefers, but are not necessary.
We intend to show this car during the 26/27 show season. Any awards won by the vehicle prior to handover remain the property of MetalMorphosis Customs.
The buyer is responsible for all transport arrangements and costs associated with the delivery. Vehicle will be located in Danville, Alabama, USA. We are able to deliver the vehicle via covered transport to the contiguous US, for an additional fee. When we deliver the vehicle we will be available to explain the car in full detail, and answer any questions you might have about the vehicle. Delivery costs must be paid in advance.
The build progress may be shown on our social medias throughout the build. The car may also feature in mainstream media if opportunities arise throughout the build.
